Practice, Practice, Practice – Color Study Quilt

It can be said that practice makes perfect, or closer to perfect anyway. The only way to get better at something is to practice it. You need to experiment with things in order to learn. Color is one of those things.

The Color Study pattern is part of the Beyond the Basics series, which explores ideas and skills in order to develop confidence and become a more advanced quilter. If you have ever been curious how to pick better colors or fabrics for your quilt projects, Color Study might be just the ticket you need.

Each of 12 blocks explores a color harmony and instructs you on what colors to look at together. But the biggest, and most important lesson of this pattern is that it gently encourages you to explore beyond the predefined colors in order to make each color harmony sing to your heart.

The pattern includes instructions on how to make a single fabric background or a scrappy background. I love using my scraps and my stash and I often find fabric I love and haven’t used in awhile when I’m pulling fabric for a scrappy quilt. Then I love the finished quilt even more!

If you have ever wanted to get better and selecting colors for you projects, this quilt will build your confidence for making great color combinations for your future projects. It even includes a helpful “cheat sheet” that you can keep in your sewing room and reference.

Color can look different for every person and I really want you to practice with these color harmonies so that you can find your favorites and love all your future projects too!
