Are you sewing along with us? The Cozy Nights QAL is going to be super casual. There are no prizes for this quilt along except having a finished quilt top at the end! I am going to be sewing a throw size Christmas version of this pattern. You can make yours with any fabric you choose, it does not have to be holiday themed.
My original Cozy Nights quilt that you see on the pattern cover is a dark green (Michael Miller Cotton Couture, Spruce) background with scrappy low volume accent fabrics. The pattern includes directions to cut from yardage or total cutting requirements that can be used when cutting from scraps. There are also directions to make unique blocks using 2 fabrics each. The combinations are endless and the cutting instructions support any way you want to make the quilt.
I loved making the scrappy accent fabrics while having a solid background to unify all the blocks. I will be making a red background with scrappy low volume Christmas fabrics as I sew along for the next 6 weeks. I’m making the schedule for a throw size, you can adjust accordingly for the size quilt you are making.
Schedule
- Week 1 (Nov 1-7): cut fabric + block 1
- Week 2 (Nov 8 – 14): blocks 2 + 3
- Week 3 (Nov 15 – 21): blocks 4 + 5
- Week 4 (Nov 22 – 28): blocks 6 + 7
- Week 5 (Nov 29 – Dec 5): blocks 8 + 9
- Week 6 (Dec 6 – 10): sashing + top assembly

Tips + Tricks
During the QAL, I’m going to provide you with tips and tricks for this pattern. I’ll share about reading the cutting instructions for this pattern, how to cut directional accent fabrics, mixing scrappy fabric to create blocks, trimming HRTs, the importance of scant 1/4″ seams, and why I sash individual blocks. Look for these tips on Instagram IGTV or blog posts.
