Do we all have a pile of low volume scraps, or is it just me? I’m always up for a quilt with low volume fabrics and scrappy is my jam. So when I came up with this pattern I made sure to include total cutting requirements and single block cutting requirements so that the units can be mixed up to achieve that scrappy look. I also happened to have yardage of this fabulous green solid Michael Miller Cotton Couture in my stash. The most unfortunate news is that this color, Spruce, is a discontinued color.
When working with stitch + flip piecing one of the most frustrating things is being left with a bunch of cut off waste. Instead of throwing that out, I’ve incorporated it back into the block and created an amazing (if I do say so myself) secondary pattern.
Each block in this quilt is large and an entire [xlarge] throw quilt only requires 9 blocks. And when looking at the final measurements of each quilt size, don’t shy away from this pattern because the number isn’t round. All that quilt math is taken care of for you and the number includes a fraction in order to create perfectly symmetrical blocks. There’s no tricky cutting or piecing. Everything is straightforward.
I also used a fabric for the backing from my stash, from the Cotton + Steel, Twinkle line. The brushed twill is so soft! This quilt will probably end up being one my family fights over while watching movies this winter.
This pattern has been a year in the making and I’m so happy to finally release it into the world. I can’t wait to see how you make this pattern into your own version!
