Skills used for the moons are hand applique or raw edge applique, with an option of curved English Paper Piecing. Traditional machine piecing is used for the background and surround.

 The Moon Phases pattern was designed to commemorate the 2019 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar mission and also celebrates the current NASA project to return to the moon by 2024.
