Embers Quilt – Scrappy Teal Version

The first approach I wanted to take on this pattern was to make a scrappy, FQ-friendly version. I pulled my fabrics mostly from stash and then filled in a few background teals from the LQS. I decided to use mostly prints with a couple solids thrown in for good measure.

A fun mix and match for the larger blocks and I was on my way. You really don’t need to pair your fabrics in any specific way, just shuffle them around so the blocks are scrappy looking. After all my blocks were assembled and on the design wall I was able to get a good idea of how to arrange them to get a good balance. I could probably move blocks around for days, so I generally like to go with my gut instinct as soon as I’m happy with an arrangement I see. It may not always be perfect because there’s always a block that can be moved.

A quick assembly of the top and I was ready to look for a backing fabric. I took me months to find the perfect fabric to go on the back. I really drug my feet on that one. But I ended up with an excellent choice that I think is as close to perfect as it can get.

I finished the quilt with some big stitch binding in a fun contrasting pink thread. Of course I took advantage of the picture perfect snow day to snap some photos of this bright, scrappy quilt.
