Beyond the Basics Pattern Series, Introducing Held Together

I’m so happy that I’m kicking of my new quilt pattern series, Beyond the Basics, with Held Together. I’m writing this series of patterns as a Quilting 102 course, of sorts. There are so many great introduction to quilting patterns and workshops out right now, but what about the confident beginner ready to take the next step. Everyone is hesitant to try something new but Beyond the Basics will provide guided step by step instructions in order to build confidence in a higher craft. It is designed to introduce techniques and skills needed to step towards a more advanced level of quilting. Each pattern will focus on taking a very small step into a new skill and offers many tips along the way.

The intent of the Held Together pattern is to build confidence when making improv cutting decisions. Each block will end up unique. Improv cutting guidelines and suggestions are given throughout the pattern. However, the cutting decision is yours but you won’t be left unguided.

This pattern is a great exercise in improv and uses a unique X block to create a soft lap quilt. If you select an appropriate color gradation the quilt even glows! If you’ve ever been curious about improv piecing but are too nervous to take the leap, don’t fret anymore, Held Together is the perfect small step into the world of improv.
