Longest Sewing Room Makeover Ever

A year ago I pulled the trigger and painted 2 walls of my sewing room. Shhhh! We rent so I am not really supposed to do things like that. However, I live in a world of what I like to call “renter’s beige” and that made my sewing space very blah. I chose a non-offensive almost white and I doubt it will even be noticed. The reason I painted just 2 walls was because I was working on a time sensitive photo shoot and didn’t really have the time to dismantle and paint the rest of the room.

Before I did any painting.
Staged for the photo shoot after painting the first 2 walls.
After the photo shoot this corner returned to being my design walls.

I have been wanting to finish the other 2 walls since then so I decided that I would kick off the year with a mini makeover of my sewing space. Not only did I paint the walls, but I added a new quilt ladder, painted part of my desk and added new legs, and hung new art.

Before
After

I’m so happy with how it turned out that I really need to start making a mess of it instead of just sitting in the room and enjoying it. Here are some details from my space. I really need to clean out, dust, and reorganize my cart (an ongoing and ever-changing project) so I’m not showing any details of that in this post.

I kept my favorite mini quilts hanging and a cork board for pinning things I want to keep close at hand.
I decided to frame art instead of only hanging mini quilts. L to R: My art print of Finger Paints quilt, bird by Cori Dantini, letterpress from Hatch Show Print tour during QuiltCon 2019 Nashville.
I made a new design board using foam core and batting.
This part of the desk was built to house a printer that is long gone. I decided to store books. The white bin holds misc. computer wires that I access regularly.
The majority of my fabric stash lives in bins under my cutting table. I categorize them and then put them in color order. They aren’t all organized perfectly right now, but all my fabric is put away!
Paper stars I folded during the holidays and hung from the light fixture.
The other side of the room still looks the same, although I don’t really have anything in the works so the design wall is clean. My cutting table also doubles as my computer desk.
